DIY Non-Acetone Press-On Remover You Can Make at Home
Share
Want to safely remove your press-ons and reuse them? You’re in the right spot. This DIY press-on nail remover is gentle, acetone-free, and strong enough to break down even extra-hold glues—without wrecking your natural nails or melting your press-on’s finish. Here’s how to make it at home using simple, skin-safe ingredients.
Why Go Non-Acetone?
We tested acetone formulas too—but they often damage the polish or shape of press-ons, making them harder to reuse. This non-acetone version protects your press-ons and your natural nails. Plus, it’s beginner-friendly, smells better, and uses ingredients you can keep on hand for regular nail care.
DIY Nail Release Elixir – 10ml Formula
This recipe is perfectly measured for a 10ml dropper bottle:
• 6ml Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover – Softens glue without damaging press-ons
• 1ml Isopropyl Alcohol (91%) – Speeds up glue breakdown
• 1ml Jojoba Oil – Nourishes and protects natural nails
• 1ml Almond Oil – Lightweight moisture; softens cuticles
• 1ml Fractionated Coconut Oil – Adds slip; hydrates and helps product glide
• 1 drop Tea Tree Oil – Antibacterial; helps lift glue
Instructions:
Add all ingredients to a 10ml dropper bottle. Shake well before each use. Store in a cool, dry place.

No problem—here’s how to mix up a 60ml refill batch.
How to Use Your DIY Remover
1. Apply the remover generously around the base and underneath each press-on.
2. Let it soak for 10–15 minutes (or up to 40 minutes for extra-hold glues).
3. While soaking, gently pry at the edges to help the remover seep underneath. Reapply as needed.
4. Once the press-on loosens, gently lift it off with a cuticle stick—never force it.
5. Remove any leftover glue by wiping it while soft or letting it dry and filing it gently.
✅ DO’S
• Use it for gentle press-on removal — especially around the cuticle and underside.
• Apply when a nail starts to lift — it helps loosen the glue without damage.
• Let it soak in — give it time to work its magic before removing.
• Use it on press-ons applied over gel (if there’s lifting) — the elixir can help ease them off.
❌ DON’TS
• Don’t use it as a daily cuticle or nail oil — this formula is made for removal.
• Don’t expect it to break through fully sealed gel — it needs a little lift to get underneath.
• Don’t use it right before reapplying nails — the oils can affect how well new press-ons stick.
• Don’t confuse it with acetone — it won’t melt glue instantly; it softens the bond over time.
Caring for Your Press-Ons After Removal
• Wash them with soap and warm water to remove oil
• Let them dry completely
• File the bottom and edges lightly to smooth glue buildup
• Not all glue needs to be removed—just enough for a flat fit
• There’s no need to rough them up—just a gentle buff will do!
Bonus Tip:
Store your press-ons in a clean, dry container and avoid using acetone on them if you want to get the most wears out of each set.
