How to Gently Remove Press-Ons (and Reuse Them!)

What Is the Nail Release Elixir?

The Nail Release Elixir is a non-acetone, oil infused remover that softens nail glue while conditioning the nail and cuticle area. It breaks down the bond slowly, allowing press ons to lift without force.

 

Important Note on Glue Strength

The Nail Release Elixir works best with regular to light hold nail glues, where it can soften the bond evenly and allow press-ons to lift with minimal effort.

It can work with ultra strong or extra hold glues, but:

  • Removal may take significantly longer

  • Multiple reapplications may be needed

  • Gentle patience is critical to avoid damage

If ultra strong glue is rushed or forced during removal, it can lead to natural nail damage. For these glues, longer soak times and very gentle lifting are essential.

When in doubt, let it soak longer. Time is safer than force.

 

How to Use It

  1. Apply generously around the cuticle and underneath each press on using the dropper.

  2. Let it soak for 10 to 15 minutes. For faster results, place a cotton ball soaked in elixir over the nail and wrap with foil.

  3. Gently lift using a wooden cuticle stick. Do not force the nail.

  4. Remove leftover glue by either:

    • Wiping it off while soft, or

    • Letting it dry fully and gently filing it with a fine grit file.

     

  5. Wash hands and allow press ons to dry completely before storing.

Patience is key. The longer it soaks, the easier and safer the removal.

DIY Nail Release Elixir (10ml Formula)

You can also make a small batch at home using simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 6ml non-acetone nail polish remover

  • 1ml isopropyl alcohol (70%)

  • 1ml jojoba oil

  • 1ml sweet almond oil

  • 1ml glycerin (optional, for added hydration)

  • 1 to 2 drops vitamin E oil or essential oil (optional)

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a 10ml dropper bottle. Shake well before each use and store in a cool, dry place.

Tips for Reusing Press Ons

  • Store press ons in a clean, dry container

  • Avoid acetone, which can dull or warp the nail

  • Lightly buff the underside before reapplying

  • Handle gently to extend wear over multiple uses
