Press-On Nail Glue Comparison: What Works and What to Expect

Real wear test using Olive and June Strong Ultra Strong Hold Nail Glue.

The nail glue you use can make or break your press-on manicure. Hold time, edge sealing, comfort, and removal all depend on the formula you choose, but none of it matters if your prep is off.

Before choosing a glue, it is critical to prep both your natural nails and your press-ons correctly. Proper prep dramatically affects wear time and how clean your removal will be.

How to Prep Your Nails Like a Pro

How to Apply Press-On Nails (That Actually Stay On)

Once prep is done right, here is our honest breakdown of the nail glues we have personally tested.

Olive and June Nail Glues

After trying multiple brands, Olive and June remains our most trusted option overall. They offer two formulas with very different use cases.

Olive and June Regular Strength Nail Glue

This glue works well for short-term wear and flexibility.

What we like

  • Reliable hold for a few days, sometimes longer

  • Easier removal compared to stronger formulas

Things to know

  • Does not seal the edges as well

  • May leave slight gapping depending on nail shape and fit

This is a good option if you want your press-ons to last a few days without committing to longer wear but with a secure hold.

Olive and June Ultra Strong Hold Nail Glue (Our Top Favorite)

This is our most-used glue and the one we recommend for long-lasting press-ons.

Why we love it

  • Very strong hold, often lasting a week or more

  • Excellent edge sealing

  • Creates a flush, polished look with minimal lifting

Important note

Because this glue is strong, removal requires more effort. To make removal easier and reduce the risk of natural nail damage, one method we use is adjusting prep slightly.

Our removal-friendly trick

We still remove cuticles, but we skip buffing the natural nail. Leaving the nail slightly smoother makes it less grippy, which weakens the bond just enough to make removal easier later while still maintaining strong wear.

This method is optional, but it works well if you want strong hold with less aggressive removal.

Beauty Secrets Nail Glue (Sally Beauty)

The Beauty Secrets line from Sally Beauty offers two formulas: a thicker tube version with an anti-clog lid and a thinner brush-on version.

What to expect

  • Convenient packaging options

  • Moderate hold

  • Thicker tube formula and thinner brush-on formula available

Downsides

  • Edges do not seal well

  • Hold is best for short wear

If you do not want your press-ons to last longer than about three days, this glue works fine. It is not ideal for long wear or clean edge sealing.

Dashing Diva WonderBond Nail Glue

We also tested Dashing Diva WonderBond nail glue.

What we found

  • Hold can last close to a week

  • Thinner consistency

Limitations

  • Does not seal edges well

  • May lift at the cuticle or sidewalls over time

This glue offers decent wear time but lacks the edge sealing that gives press-ons a truly polished look.

Which Nail Glue Should You Choose?

There is no single best glue for everyone. The right choice depends on how long you want your press-ons to last and how easy you want removal to be.

  • Short wear (up to a few days): Olive and June Regular Strength or Beauty Secrets

  • Long wear (week or more): Olive and June Strong Hold

  • Moderate wear with thinner formula: Dashing Diva WonderBond

No matter which glue you choose, prep, fit, and glue placement matter just as much as the product itself.
