How to Remove Press-Ons Without Damage (Even Extra-Hold Glue)

If you’ve fallen in love with your press-ons (we get it!), the last thing you want is to ruin them during removal. That’s why we created our Nail Release Elixir—a non-acetone, oil-infused remover that gently breaks down glue without damaging your press-ons or natural nails. Yes, even those extra-hold glues like Olive & June! Here’s how to use it and how to make your own at home.

Why We Chose Non-Acetone Only

We tested both acetone and non-acetone versions—but the non-acetone formula outperformed. It breaks down glue effectively without stripping polish or warping your press-ons, making it the best option if you want to reuse your nails again and again.

How to Use It:

1. Apply generously around the cuticle and underneath each press-on using a dropper.

2. Let it soak for 10–15 minutes. If you’re using extra-hold glue, give it 20–40 minutes.

3. While soaking, gently pry at the edges of the nail using a wooden cuticle stick to help the product slide between your natural nail and the press-on. Reapply the remover as needed.

4. Once the press-on lifts easily, gently remove it—don’t force it.

5. To remove leftover glue:

Wipe it away while soft, or

Let it dry completely and gently file it off with a fine-grit nail file

6. Wash your hands and let the press-ons dry before storing.

Caring for Your Press-Ons After Removal

After soaking, your press-ons may feel a little slick from the oils. Here’s how to prep them for reuse:

Wash them gently with soap and warm water to remove oily residue

Let them dry completely

File the underside and edges lightly to smooth any leftover glue

Not all glue needs to come off—just enough to avoid uneven application

• There’s no need to rough them up—just a gentle buff will do!

DIY Nail Release Elixir – 10ml Formula + Why It Works

Want to make your own? Here’s the exact formula and why each ingredient matters:

1ml Jojoba Oil – Nourishes and protects natural nails

1ml Almond Oil – Lightweight moisture; softens cuticles

1 drop Tea Tree Oil – Antibacterial; helps lift glue

Instructions:

Add everything to a 10ml dropper bottle, shake well before each use, and store in a cool, dry place.

Tips for Reuse:

Avoid acetone to protect the polish and structure

File the underside and edges lightly before reapplying

Handle with care and you’ll get multiple wears from every set
